No 2010 Victoria operates as an umbrella group for Victoria’s activist community to network in opposition to the Olympics. We consider ourselves a parallel group to the No 2010 Committee in Vancouver and strive to collaborate with our allies on the mainland. It is our goal to create an open organizing hub for Anti-Olympic outreach projects and to educate the general public about issues surrounding the 2010 Olympics. More than a single rallying point of contention, we view the 2010 Olympics as the prism through which we can address ongoing systemic issues in Victoria, including poverty, ecocide, industrial capitalism, etc. We value community building and security culture within our group. We acknowledge the traditional lands of the indigenous peoples who lived here before us. Organizational Structure No 2010 Victoria meets bimonthly to discuss our larger goals: multiple working groups meet autonomously as required. We agree to rotate facilitators and note-takers at every meeting. The facilitator is responsible for sending a meeting reminder to the listserve 3 days before the meeting and for creating a draft agenda to bring to the meeting s/he is leading. The note-taker is responsible for typing and emailing the minutes of the meeting to the listserve as soon as possible.
Decisions made by our group will be ratified by 70% consensus of attending members, in accord with the following procedure: - Set proposal forward to group.
- Discussion: Question & Answer session to obtain clarification.
- Take a pulse vote: “Who does not agree?”
- If no consensus is achieved, conduct a 20 minute debate.
- Take final vote, to be ratified if 70% agreement is achieved.
- Ratification may only be finalized with the understanding that individuals in disagreement are not obliged to follow the will of the vote. (And we’ll still love them!)
